Welcoming Andrea Gurnari

Our new Investment Partner: strengthening our commitment to founders.

For a long time, venture capital rewarded a familiar profile. Experience, pattern recognition, and network strength formed the foundation of the craft. The best investors built intuition through repeated exposure: evaluating founders, shaping deals, understanding market dynamics, and recognising early signs of exceptional companies. These attributes remain necessary as they provide context, judgment, and an instinct for quality.

But the environment around venture has changed. We now operate in a world where AI reshapes how information is discovered, how quickly understanding evolves, and how much surface area a small team can cover. At the same time, while deep technical and product judgment has always been essential in venture, the pace and complexity of today’s environment have raised the bar on how rigorously and consistently that judgment needs to be applied.

VCs can no longer distinguish themselves by relying on the traditional model, but by extending it through technology, systems, and continuous iteration to compound insights in ways that were not previously possible. As Moonfire enters the next phase of its evolution, we have been deliberate in strengthening the partnership to reflect this shift. The firms that outperform in the coming decade will be those that combine deep investor judgment with a system that continuously learns, scales, and incorporates new technological capabilities as soon as they become viable. This is the model we are building, and the model we sought to reinforce with our newest partner hire.

We are thrilled to share that Andrea Gurnari is joining Moonfire as our newest Investment Partner.

Andrea brings many of the attributes that have historically defined strong early stage investors: he combines clear judgment, founder sensitivity, and a record of backing exceptional teams early. What makes him especially aligned with our beliefs is the way he combines these strengths with a technology-first mindset and a builder’s approach to the craft.

A track record rooted in strong early-stage judgment

Andrea has built a globally top-decile track record in his vintage while investing across AI, SaaS, fintech, and data. Those categories sit exactly at the centre of Moonfire’s thesis. As an investor, he has partnered with some of the most ambitious European founders with his inception-stage investments in Swap, Autone, JetHR, and many others.

A product and technical background uniquely suited to next-generation venture

Andrea adds a product-first, architecture-driven investment lens. Long before he moved into VC, he built a foundation in complex technology and financial systems. At BlackRock, he worked on Aladdin, one of the world’s most sophisticated portfolio and order management platforms, gaining firsthand experience designing and governing mission-critical software. He also held product development roles at Goldman Sachs and Bloomberg, which gave him a deep understanding of how large-scale data systems operate and evolve.

A Partner for Moonfire’s Next Phase

Hiring Andrea reflects the standard we hold ourselves to as we build Moonfire into a durable, multi-fund franchise. Early-stage investing is changing, and the firms that thrive will be those that combine timeless judgment with the ability to systemise, scale, and continuously improve through technology.

Andrea represents that blend. His track record, product depth, and modern investment mindset strengthen the partnership and reinforce our long-term model.

I am proud of the partnership we're becoming: a firm where venture capital is treated as a product to be continuously reimagined, where the infrastructure exists to compound every interaction, and where promising founders find partners who build alongside them from day one.

We welcome Andrea to the fold.

“I believe that the only sustainable advantage in venture comes from building alongside founders. It creates a level of empathy and structural advantage that a purely transactional investor can never reach. It’s an honour to be a part of the team that’s quietly built an alpha with its approach.

The failure of most self-proclaimed data-driven funds stems from a lack of product DNA, where engineering is seen as a back-office requirement, rather than a core investment enabler. At Moonfire, the energy mirrors that of a high-growth startup. Data is considered foundational. This creates a unique environment where the challenge isn't the lack of information, but the speed of creative experimentation. I look forward to working with the team to leverage our systems as engines of innovation.” - Andrea Gurnari
